Submotion Orchestra

Submotion-orchestra
Gorgeous new single Always from Leeds collective Submotion Orchestra, lifted from their debut album Finest Hour. A colourful breeze of summer blossom, Ruby Woods' vocals drift over fluttering beats, trickles of piano keys and bursts of trumpet. No doubt this would have been a smash at the plethora of festivals the outfit graced this summer, although a touch more sun may have helped. Their blend of soul and electronica is reminiscent of a dub-heavy Cinematic Orchestra and they already list Gilles Peterson among their fans.

Remixes of Always come from LAXX who turns in a more dub infused jolly, whilst Syncro slows the vibe down to a low slung groover toying with Ruby's vocals for perks. Check out the original and remixes below, and head over to the bands' soundcloud page to listen to the album in full.

Remix a go-go

Steve_arnoldi

Our man Steve has been at the controls again, and not just for our satisfaction this time. He has recently knocked out a couple of blinding remixes for a competition. The originals are psytrance tunes, but Steve has put his own inimitable take on each, producing some of his finest work to date, which is saying something! Have a listen to each of the tracks below and help him get lots of hits for the comp, and help your ears out in the process!

The Cheeky Half

This week's cheeky is a little different! Music connoisseur supremo Chris Coco has launched a competition via his Melodica radio show. In conjunction with the Stop Making Sense music festival in Croatia, you can win a set at his boat party at Stop Making Sense in the summer. And what do you have to do to enter? That's right, put half an hour's worth of tunes together! So this week's cheeky half is Si's entry for the competition. Please have listen, not just because it is amazing, but in order to make the shortlist, each mix must have picked up 100 plays. So get clickin!

Sneaky peek: Next week's cheeky half will be Joe's entry to the comp. It just made sense really.

Beau And The Arrows

Beau-the-arrows

Couple of very pleasant tracks here from South London's Beau And The Arrows. This debut single, Fix, is released next Monday April 4th, on limited 7" and unlimited digital! Heralded by Mr Steve Lamacq on 6Music, and due to release a full album in August, here's what Beau has to say about the band and the music:

"We are all from a part of London that’s surrounded by building blocks and burnt out cars. It is what it is, there’s no hiding from that and our music is just a reflection of who we are and what we’ve become living in those surroundings. Taking good from bad, the music and the lyrics are a combination of raw, edgy, images and sounds seen through the eyes of our naive souls”.

Snoretex

Snoretex
And so it is the turn of the other half of Walls, Mr Sam Willis, to deliver us some solo material, in the form of his Snoretex guise. And the quality continues. Fans of Walls and Willis' other production partnership, Allez Allez will be in tune with 'Strange Aeons' as it is not a dramatic departure from, and arguably an amalgation of, his previous projects. Loose ambient gurgles are interweaved through more drawn out sonic veils, floating over a lazy, disjointed beat that trips along beneath, before hazy cosmic chords pierce through the fuzz as the track builds. This is definitely worthy of a place on Buzzin' Fly's impressive roster, confirmed by the fact Chicago underground house dons, Boo Williams and Glenn Underground have been persuaded to take on remix duties, adopting their SJU Muzic (Strictly Jaz Unit) moniker to deliver a superb spacey-but-bumpin’ house re-interpretation.
